Loved the return to focusing on Artur. Loved how the stakes were raised in a sense

with him having been "ship-wrecked" for 5 years,

These wacky, whimsical, weird books just bring me so much joy. Definitely my comfort books.

I don’t know why I am carrying on with this series, my hope is that I would finally understand it and would enjoy it. The first two books in this series I struggled with but sort of got the plot. This book, I cannot tell you what happened, I don’t get it.

This book still follows Arthur Dent who we have been following for the past three books. Following several stunning catastrophes, which have involved him being alternately blown up and insulted in ever strange region of the Galaxy, Arthur is surprised to find himself living in a cave on prehistoric Earth. However, just when he thinks things cannot get worse, they suddenly do. An eddy in the space-time continuum lands him, Ford Perfect and their flying sofa in the middle of the cricket ground at Lord’s, just two days before the world is due to be destroyed by the Vogans. Arthur, Ford and their old friend Startibartfast must embark on a mission to save the whole galaxy from fanatical robots.

As mentioned in my previous reviews, I was so confused for the majority of this book. There was a lot of space stuff and there wasn’t a distinct storyline, it was just all over the place. If you ask me tomorrow what this book was, I couldn’t tell you. I generally don’t know what I've just read. Someone arrived and they were playing cricket, and someone wanted something else. All the humour fell flat, and it felt like an inside joke that I wasn’t a part of.

The reason why this book is lower rated than the other two is the sense of aimlessness or boringness in this book was a filler and complete and utter nonsense.

All I want is a book in this series make sense.

I found the second book funny and enjoyable and so was really looking forward to this one - but it didn't live up to the exciting tempo of the first two books. I had trouble with how dull the first half of the book was. Once things began picking up, there were too many weird jumps between detail and narration that it got more frustrating than entertaining. Honestly wouldn't have finished reading this if I hadn't already decided to read the whole series, heh.

Still charmingly absurd, still a little existentially melancholy (only a little bit though), still exceedingly witty. Life, the Universe and Everything could serve as a satisfying end to the 'trilogy' if you wanted to take it for an actual trilogy. I, of course, am not going to take it as the end of the trilogy because no good trilogy has just three books.
