As always, Angela Davis has a way of explaining that sticks for me. Some ppl mentioned that this was a bit repetitive, but given that there are several seperate speeches that makes sense. I also find that to be even more helpful bc repetition is essential to learning and remembering and making connections, which this is all about. As someone else mentioned, reading this in 2025 is devastating. About a decade has passed since these speeches, yet everything is still very relevant. The Palestinian struggle has been highlighted more and the Black Panther Party 10 point program is so so so relevant still. I was personally so surprised to here Angela mention the Starbucks boycott in the final speech, given that this is from so long ago and there is now a strong, ongoing boycott of it. I also already knew but it's so important to connect our struggles, such as through the connection of Palestinian protesters and Ferguson protests when dealing with police and the military in occupied Palestine. To me, the biggest takeaway is that Everything. Is. Connected. All of our struggles are shared, and bc of this we need to work together and especially develop language and communication to discuss these intersections. Only then can we tackle them.
Another big focus point is that being given rights, such as marriage equality or voting rights, does not immediately equate to justice. There are still so many issues and struggles plaguing us; financial, social, health, and environmental issues are still present and are not magically erased once rights have been granted. THIS is why freedom is a constant struggle. There will always be more to do.

Fantastic and encouraging in a way. Highly recommend the audiobook.
Reading this in 2025 feels like I’m stepping on a rake with every new paragraph

it's very, very, veeeryyyy repetitive. to the extent that even though the titles of the interviews and speeches are different, u may feel like reading the same essay over and over again. but I did pick up several book recs from it to dive deeper, so I'd suggest approaching this collection as an intro to further research.
