DS Ashley Knight book 1
I had the audiobook read by David Thorpe. I was surprised that the narrator is male when the main character is female. He does a good job, he is easy to listen to, and managed an ok voice for Ashley. So don’t be put off.
Ashley is an old hand, as well as being hard faced, she is partnered with a fast track recruit called Hector who she views as entitled and superior. We get a good back history on both of the main characters which adds to their interest. I found Ashley’s story quite emotional. Hector is quite amusing, poor chap is a newbie and already disillusioned.
It’s starts off quite darkly with a dog walker finding a body on the beach,that’s as much as I’ll say.
I enjoyed the darker element. I found the pace dropped a little in the mid section with a lot of re evaluation, but soon picked up again.
I liked Ashley and Hector, I think they will make a good team.

Interesting plot, with past events causing murderous actions in the present. Found Ashley yo be an interesting detective, be good to see how the character develops through the series.
