Pretty good book! I was not especially drawn in by the story, but the scenes between Jani and Bell were good even if I wasn't especially interested in the pairing.

2.5.
Honestly I was really disappointed by this book. I loved the night circus and enjoyed caraval despite its flaws. I love games, circuses/fairs/carnivals/amusement park stories. This book was marketed as the night circus and caraval but in a hotel that travelled. I expected lush descriptions and purple prose like the other two books but I didn’t feel that from this book. It read very much like a debut novel. There was pacing issues and a lot of info dumping. The protagonist also fit the dumb protagonist role and was just really annoying. I still love the idea but the execution was just a disappointment for me unfortunately.

This book surprised me. I liked the magic system and it was a little darker than I expected. It was slightly formulaic, but with enough little surprises to keep it interesting. Overall an entertaining and enjoyable read.

Main character was bland and the book was simultaneously too rushed and too meandering. The weird focus on the love story randomly cut with the main characters quest seemed odd.

The main character was impulsive and acted of her own accord with little thought of others or the repercussions of her actions. She at no point gained any real depth or garnered any meaningful relationships in the book.

Couldn't finish because the main character and her actions, as well as the actions of others were too trope-y and unrealistic.

Easy read with a story that retains interest but does not challenge the reader.
