I am really into character and story development. I love understanding the people behind the story.
This is more often not the easiest to accomplish in short stories but I have read many a short story where I have been captured by the characters.
Unfortunately this was not it.
I would however like to say that this story did have potential.

What a compact, fast and exciting read this was. I had to read it a second time to appreciate the absolute brilliance of the story.

Considering it’s such a short book the author packs a good story line in! Recommend if you’ve got half an hour spare!

Hardly 49 pages, this novella by Jane Corry still managed to leave me gasping.

2 sisters who are not close, who have always been playing for favoritism with their mother. One of them is married but something is amiss. Danielle insists that Simon is doing everything to do away with her, Susie can hardly believe it. Well, one can’t blame her Susie knows Danielle’s penchant for drama.

Six months later, the sisters are in court with Simon’s death hovering over their heads.

The twisty ending is shockingly good but it is a novella so there’s no gradual development of the plot which gives the reader a feeling of abruptness.

For a short story, there’s definitely nothing sweet about it, The killing Type provides a glimpse of the huge talent that Jane Corry is.

This was a very short but suspenseful read which I enjoyed.

As a note, a copy of this novel was sent to me via NetGalley by the publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not effect my opinions in any way. Review also found here on Booked J.

This short story just wasn't for me. I almost didn't finish it but I have a mad amount of respect for Jane Corry. I came across her work on accident but it was definitely one of those deliriously delicious and happy accidents. I love a good thriller and Corry provides readers with some of the best. There's a reason why her work is such a hit but The Killing Type was, sadly, not one of the many reasons.

Maybe it's less of the fact that The Killing Type is bad (it, on many levels, is not a bad story) and more of the fact that I am just not all that keen on short stories. Corry is one of my favourite authors in the genre but much like with my luke-warm reception of Gillian Flynn's short story The Grown-Up, this story didn't do much at all for me.

In-fact, I desperately wanted to both like and finish The Killing Type. In terms of premise, I adored it! I find the psychological elements, and the relationship between sisters, featured in it to be utterly engaging. Especially after having read Blood Sisters. But, it felt... underwhelming and not unlike a jagged puzzle piece trying to fit into a spot that it just didn't belong. I think that The Killing Type could have been a good story--if it was a full length novel.

However, the simple fact of the matter is that this was not my cup of tea. If you are a die-hard fan of Corry, and if you adore short stories, you will devour this in the blink of an eye. I have a feeling that one opinion will be universal: this needs to be a full-length novel ASAP. I'm serious, Corry, I'm not opposed to begging on my knees for more!

Overall, it didn't quite live up to its potential but it also wasn't a horrendous read.

I have had a couple of Jane Corry books in my TBR pile for a while now as they keep popping up in my recommendations. This Novella was a perfect introduction to her suspenseful, plot twisty writing style and was the perfect way to spark my need to read her other books. To be able to build suspense and plot twists in such a short book leaves me wanting to devour her other ones. 2 sisters 1 controlling husband and a murder what a read! Thanks #netgalley for giving me the chance to read this book. #goodreads #litsy insta #tea_sipping_bookworm #janecorry #thekillingtype

This story might be short but it packs a punch. The twists (yes there is more than one!) left me shocked and surprised though out! A brilliant little revenge story. I'm eagerly awaiting the release of Correy's full-length novel after readings the teaser included at the end.

Thanks to Netgalley and Penguin for this ARC for sending me this in exchange for an open and honest review.
