Nikki is a woman who owns a bookstore and also helps women who have to leave bad situations. She is good at what she does and because of this she is hired by a company called Care4 to follow a woman who Nikki is told is selling company secrets. As Nikki works to follow this woman things do not go as planned and she is dragged into something a lot worse than she imagined. All of this is going on while Nikki is trying to deal with issues from her past and watch out for her brother. Nikki is the type of person who wants to make sure those she loves and cares for are safe while still trying to figure out what she wants in life. With everything that has happened she seems to wonder if her life will be "normal".
A great book that I throughly enjoyed.

Others seem to love the MC but I found her to be rather dry, boring even...and I know it wasn't the narrator's fault because I love January LaVoy.  Something about the writing just didn't appeal to me. I jinxed myself because right before I started this book I noticed that I hadn't DNF'd a book yet this month.  So much for that.

Wow, this was a big surprise, ngl. The book wasn't what I was expecting exactly, but still was really good. Loved the mc, the "good" side characters, and the plot. We stan an angry female mc who'd murder for her loved ones, but also finds murder bothersome xd hopefully the next book gets translated to czech, so I can have both <3

I won this in a Goodreads giveaway!

I'm so pleased to have gotten such a great book in a giveaway. I was hooked within the 1st few pages. I found myself irritated when my phone rang because I had to put the book down. Thank you again Goodreads!

Good start to a new series. Described as a combination of Lisbeth Salander and Jack Reacher, but I'm not so sure. It's less graphically sadomasochistic than the Salander series, for which I'm grateful. Even reading about those Stieg Larsson books was enough to convince me not to actually read them. I don't see Jack Reacher either. The qualities that set him apart from other adventurers don't show up as much for Nikki Griffin.

If I were to compare her with a current series, it would seem to me to be more akin to a female version of Nick Petrie's Peter Ash. Nikki has her own demons (though different from Ash's), and is well-trained, but has her normal everyday job (the bookstore) and finds herself helping others. I'm eager to read the next in the series.

Thank you to Flatiron Books and Netgalley for an ARC for my honest opinion.

I had a hard time liking Nikki, the main character of this book. I feel like she is a caricature of what a bad A woman should look like. She clearly has some anger issues and everyone around her seems ok with that. I was most interested in her bookstore and the bookstore cat.

The storyline took some time to develop but did pick up and get exciting in the last couple characters.

Overall my dislike for stereotypical characters made me not enjoy this too much and if this turns into a series I probably won't continue with it.
