What a cute book. It’s a YA coming of age but with an orphan hero. There are demons and sorcery. It was interesting that this hero saves the whole world with the help of her love interest. It’s mostly a hero’s journey. Not much romance. But still interesting.

I loved this book with all my heart. I love the development and how the author takes time to build up to the ending and how she builds up the relationship between Nathaniel, Elizabeth and Silas. I must say Silas was Definitely my favorite character. He was incredibly funny without trying and I love the comments on how Nathaniel dresses. I loved him so much. This book bought me so much joy and I’m definitely buying the new one

I read this book from the 1st-4th of February, as part of the Dymocks challenge for ‘award winning’ - it has won best book of the year by amazon, kirkus, and bookpage, as well as being in top ten picks for certain communities. I really enjoyed this book, although I really wasn’t captivated by the first few chapters. The romance sub plot started pretty early on and that was interesting! I did seem to figure out a lot of the plot reveals before they got revealed, such as the
criminal being chancellor ashcroft and the libraries being a pentagram
.  Some things I didn’t like were how chapters jumped several hours in time without depicting how Elisabeth got out of whatever situation she was in. the chapters are long which would usually be fine but i’ve got a cold at the moment and it’s hard for me to concentrate for that long. also in this edition it’s really annoying that most of the words on the edge of a line cut off so that the text can be a perfect square but i really did not like that. i also didn’t love the character of nathaniel, i feel like with his backstory he shouldn’t have been so charming and joking. idk maybe he was just in love. The description in this book is beautiful, I can see everything so vividly as I read. The concept of magic and the grimoires was fascinating and so developed! It was a really good book! 4.25 stars.

In this beautiful fantasy that centers around the protection of books, Elisabeth is an apprentice in training to be a Warden of grimoires in the Great Library. The Wardens keep and maintain the Grimoires while providing protection against sorcerers who might try to use them to control people and lower demons. We meet Elisabeth who has the reputation as an outcast, since she was an orphan left at the library as a baby. She’s been Director Irena’s ward for 16 years. Irene is very fond of the girl, taking her under her wing and giving her the apprenticeship. One night Elisabeth is woken out of a dream, feeling as if something is wrong. What ensues is a fantastic adventure and a little romance that will keep you glued to this book. Sorcery of Thorns is a book I hadn’t heard about- my daughter put it in my hands- and I will definitely be recommending it.
