The story had some interesting plot points, but I felt they were a bit underdeveloped.
Still it was entertaining.

So So Bad!
Ugh. Who is editing these books? This book was unbelievably bad! The idea was solid but wow, the delivery was just rubbish. The FMC was beyond annoying, and the world building set up was poorly done. This is a hard no.

That was mediocre. It was like a YA book from 2000s, where nothing is happening, but somehow couple still ends up together.
Larissa is the type of woman that would protect anyone even at risk of her own life. So it is no surprise that she is a cop. But after the Boston bombing she lost herself and only her job mattered. Roman is also a protector, but he is also a gargoyle shifter. Both know there is something different about the other, but it may take some demons to make them realize it.
I love that Larissa's character really shows depth. We get to see into her and how devastating the bombing was. And I'm glad the author used real life events in the story.
Highly recommend for PNR readers. Can't wait for more.
Voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of the book.

Im sorry i try to find certain things that appeal to me even in books i don't like as i respect any person who can publish a book, and hats off to this author for publishing.
First the heroine... She just blew hot and cold all the way through, a bit of a hot mess, The friendship was nice between her and Janie but no real history to benefit the author.
The chemistry between characters.... considering they were probable mates was like a meeting in Downton abbey, formal and slightly brusque paired with Larrisa going bipolar on him really didn't have me feeling them... the Attack had no rhyme or reason to it it just was... the book lacked a lot of backing and world building.
The writing wasn't bad...

Short, fast paced. I like the storyline and premise for the gargoyles. Larissa has a little too much attitude.
DNF 54%
The FMC is probably the dumbest cop I’ve ever read about.

adventurous
mysterious
tense
medium-paced
This was a very quick read. Some spice a lot of action. I’d be interested in reading more. I do wish there had been more world building but maybe there’ll be more in the next book. I very much enjoyed these narrators.
Not interested in the next book here at all lol. But this was interesting at the start. I don't really vibe with the mate scenario here. It also felt like the action was lacking unfortunately. I probably should have DNF'd it. I won't remember this at all so yeah, sad times.
Enjoyable Read
This was the first book I have read from Ms. Carlisle and the first gargoyle book that I have read. Both get a thumbs up from me. Ms. Carlisle's writing is well-done and easy to read. I only bookmarked one editing issue. There may be some I missed, but nothing jumped out at me interrupting the story.
I liked both the main characters Larissa and Roman. I felt a believable connection between them. I admit that briefly I wanted to smack Larissa for her foolishness, but it didn't last. *lol* While they had a few communication issues at first, it didn't drive me batty like some books do.
The storyline was interesting with both characters being in law enforcement so to speak. She's a Boston police officer and he's in charge of the gargoyle sentries. I love how they worked together to resolve the enemy attack. Ms. Carlisle even included a bit of recent Boston history into the storyline.
I'm definitely going to be be reading more books by Lisa Carlisle.
How is the author's writing? Good
Is there violence? Some violence/battle scenes
Is there sexual content? Yes
How is the story narrated? Third person
How would you describe the plot of this book? Some twists
How would you describe the pace? Fast. The bulk of the story unfolds all in one night.
How would you describe the characters? Developed
