Better than the last book. Lots of crucial plot information. I read this book faster because I was actually interested this time. They bangin bangin. Sometimes it for real felt like every other chapter but, I understand the point of that within the relationship development of the characters. 3.75 because I found it more enjoyable than the last book. I like the way JLA is writing the characters in this series vs FBAA. The characters are more tolerable.

BE MINDFUL OF READING ORDER.
I’m realizing I should have read A Shadow In The Ember and then The War of Two Queens and THEN A Light In The Flame. I read AWOTQ before both of the books in this sub series and I will need to reread to capture all of the details.

I really like this series of JLAs. I do think it’s kind of repetitive of the FBAA storyline and characters, BUT I think that’s okay because I kind of like this story better. And I think it also helps show the parallel between Sera and Poppy’s stories since they’re ultimately connected and related.

This story started off slow and I felt like they were having a lot of sex (don’t get me wrong I love shut), but there wasn’t much plot development. It did pick up in the last half and once that happened I had a hard time putting the book down. The ending kind of snuck up on me and I felt left a lot of plot lines and points open that I thought would be resolved but I guess that’s because there’s going to be another book lol so I’ll just wait to find out! Overall it was a good story and plot with a twist at the end I wasn’t expecting, and I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book!

I enjoyed every minute of this book & didn’t  want it to end. I believe this is the best of all of JLA’s novels. The pacing was perfect & sentence structure was much easier to understand. There was still moments of modern language but I could over look that because everything else was amazing for me.
The relationship between Nyktos & Sera was one of the best I think I have ever read. I love them & their story so much. The spice was outstanding, the banter was spot on & the tension throughout the whole book was perfection.
I also really appreciated sera’s anxiety rep, it felt very real & the author explored it with nuance - I felt very seen in those pages.
Overall I think it’s my favourite of the whole FBAA world & I can’t wait for the last book!

I am in love with both Nyktos and Sera. There’s so much nuance in their relationship, their dynamic so fresh. The lord is a little tough to keep up with sometimes, but so so interesting. Especially when you remember what is happening in the main FBAA series.
