A very long story about nothing, mainly set in the 1940’s. What annoyed me most was that the entire book was written as a letter in response to someone’s daughter who truly wouldn’t care less about the author’s story of sexual rebellion. Maybe she doesn’t have insurance, but therapy would have been preferable to over-sharing in this way.

From the start of this book up until “the scandal” it’s a light, fun, guilty pleasure of a read. From the turning point in the book, it grows more serious and impossible to put down. I found myself feeling such bittersweet nostalgia for Vivian’s life and the events that unfolded as she aged. Admittedly emotional reading her final lesson to the reader. A great book!

I'd actually give this book 3.5 stars, so I rounded up. It's a good story that held my interest, but i felt like it dragged on way longer than it needed to.

I’m giving this 3.5 stars. The meat of the story is very entertaining and fast paced.... but it just doesn’t quite add up with the way the story starts off and ends.... It almost feels like there’s two different books here and the “connection” to bridge the two stories is a bit of a stretch in my opinion...... definitely didn’t need 400 pages to make the connection.

Let's call it 3.5 stars. This is another book where I enjoyed the first half more than the second half.
