Memorable Quotes:
---
The details of power rarely matter. What matters is the impression of power.
---
Like any reasonable human, I did not like harming innocent people. But, like any reasonable human, I do not consider the wealthy to be innocent people.
---
Combat is not the totality of war.
---
Men are a formidable force worthy of our full attention, which is why nature must remind us that it is an immortal god, capable of ending any of us in a moment.
---
We all don't get happy lives. Maybe a happy life doesn't exist, at least not as some complete, discrete entity. We get what we get and we sort through how we feel about it moment by moment.
---
It was the ghost of my parents I was holding, in crackling yellowed parchment. I took the letters with me but didn’t tell Albert what they were. He didn’t ask. He respected that there was much about myself I wouldn’t tell him yet, and much more I would never tell him, and he accepted that he had my present, and so he didn’t need to have my past.
---
Each citizen in Night Vale is interesting. Each citizen is frightened by their government, but more frightened of the sky. Each citizen had something to hide or something to hide from. Maybe each citizen had their own invisible path they were following, and maybe their paths had led them here, too.

3.05/5.00 - [Not what I expected]

For what it is, I enjoyed this book... but only about 15% of this feels like Nightvale. By far the Nightvale portions of this book are leagues stronger than the backstory of the Faceless Old Woman. Personally, a bit of a disappointment given the strength of the last book in the series.

The wit of Welcome to Night Vale transfers once again magically into book form. A sea-faring adventure story that turns so grim was a fun and exciting read. My favorite out of the Night Vale books!

This was an interesting listen.
I knew Mara Wilson was the voice of the faceless old woman on the podcast so I loved that I got right back into the character because of her narration.
I loved that this book gave me her story told through the span of lifetimes, hers and many others, in such a vivid detail that I'm glad it was done in a book be an episode on the podcast.

Craner and Fink really went and provided an origin story that I never could have expected for this particular character, everand I love that surprise!
