This reads like it was written by someone who was created in a lab 3 months ago. I don’t know how else to explain it. 4 stars for being fun and silly though.

The only good thing about this book was the one smut scene.

This novella was okay. The best of the 3 so far in the series, I think.

Basically - it's a world where orcs live among humans and a human woman is obsessed with her big burly neighbor, who happens to be an orc.

Rushed

This sort of takes insta love to a new level and the way these two react to each other is... weird to say the least.

Honestly I think my biggest issue with this is I finished the story feeling like I didn't really know either of the characters so I wasn't really invested in their happiness.

There's very little in the way of conflict and most of the characters are under developed. It's an okay story but not a great one.

This story has a lot of repeat phrases back to back so the reading wasn’t enjoyable and was extremely redundant. The way the scenes were set up also felt very odd and not organic at all. Example: he goes to take off her boots and explains overly much about how she doesn’t have socks because she was in such a rush to see him. The scene in and of itself is cute but the added language detracted from the vibe. Very easily coulda said “he was greeted with bare feet and cute pink polish” and her response of “I was in a bit of a rush to get to you in time….” Would have felt natural gotten the point across and not felt so stilted and weird. But it’s a short read and I felt like the author forgot she was suppose to write this and then it was crunch time. Very 1:00 am  paper that’s due the next day vibes. Maybe just not the author for me. Still they’ve published quite the number of stories so that’s not nothing.

This Valentine's Day monster novella was surprisingly redundant and falls in the insta-love category. The entire plot is that orcs "claim their bride in the dark of winter" and there was minimal actual claiming going on, if you know what I'm saying. It was cute enough to go on to the next in the series, since all three novellas are by different authors.

The writing is fine, but the author has a lot of internalized misogyny which made the novella difficult to get through towards the end. Despite her working and him not, she still does all the cooking. The dynamic feels very wish-fulfill-y, where she gives up domestic power but he's the right guy to give it up for. This could potentially work for a monster society, but they live in a human society so this feels really gross and dangerous in the same way it's dangerous for literally every woman who enters this kind of dynamic. Plus, the epilogue (even *her* epilogue) is literally about him and his future career. Nothing about her future career. And her "plan" to be that special someone that can make him calm? Apparently that goes against everything he knows about his own people, and yet it works? Definitely wish-fulfill-y.
