Another in the series that might be a 4-star that I’ll still give 5 stars anyways. I think it did exactly what it set out to do - set up the rest of the series.

All of a sudden we went from a champion’s tournament in the first book to discovering what’s really at stake for Erilea in this book. It transitions perfectly from an introduction to characters to us figuring out hints to what their roles may be in the rest of the series.

Throughout that transition, we get to see the assassin side of Celaena in this book and delve further into her history/past. And Dorian’s character goes from charming to immensely interesting. Chaol’s still Chaol.

The mysteries kept me reading and gasping until the very end, and I couldn’t wait to pick up Heir of Fire next.

I really enjoyed this book! And from part 2 the pace really picked up and I didn’t want to put it down!

After wondering what order to read the books in, I definitely think that after finishing this book that Assassin’s Blade should be read next/third (it just makes so much sense when you get to the end of the book to now look back at her life before Endovier).

I loved it, and the plot is beginning to get more intricate and all of the world building (which might have felt a little slower paced at the beginning) is so necessary! I’m excited to continue this series.
