Such a long time since I’ve read such an enthralling book! Slow start, but as soon as you hit the halfway mark, everything falls in place, the page flipping speeds up, I was distracted at work just because I had to find out what happened next! Ethical challenges of medicine, motherhood, the moral grey areas of human dynamics, the ever annoyance of capitalism, the mutual conflict between modern and tribal lives, conservation and protection of ecology. This book packs themes upon themes into a very easy read. Fantastic plot. You will come to love the characters, even if you do not at other points. Prep your heartstrings to be tugged and dropped and tugged again. I would absolutely reread this book

I had a hard time getting into this one but got more invested in the second half. However, I found the ending disturbing. Might lower my rating after I sit with it awhile. The novel has moments of brilliance but was not overly gripping for me.

This one was a joy to read. The writing style followed the plot - succinct when in Minnesota, and convoluted & windy as the protagonist arrived in the Amazon. The flaws of the characters and persistent dynamic of masculinity in science were both intriguing and amusing. I laughed, I cried.
