The beginning is slow. Then the middle picks up and is interesting. And then the ending sucks.

I do not know how to leave reviews anymore. I liked it. Good plot situation.

The only thing that made this a 4 instead of a 5 was a tiny thread left dangling at the ending.

Beautiful writing. Took me a little to get into this book, but the woman's travels to the Amazon were described in amazing detail, especially the unreality of the changing circumstances.

I think this is the best book I've read by Patchett so far. Really liked Bel Canto, and Patron Saint of Liars was OK. This one has more snap. Can't wait to recommend to my book group.

I think this book was all over the place, I still don’t know what the point of the book was. Like what?

It took me a couple false starts to read Patchett's Bel Canto that everyone was raving about. That treat led me to State of Wonder, not knowing that it was her latest and just released. It is terrific. You can smell and hear and feel the Amazon jungle closing in and the story is pretty darn close to riveting. Gotta find out more about this woman. How did she research this one?
