Kingsolver does such an amazing job of blending fiction and reality. I feel more educated on history and politics with every book of hers I read without feeling like I’ve had to sacrifice any enjoyment of the book. This felt like a timely read to understand how the political events of today have been years in the making.

I wasn’t expecting this to be so relevant to our current times but whew! Really good.

I would have cared much more about history in high school if books like this, weaving a personal narrative into real events, had been assigned concurrently.

Very dull

I loved this book. Kingsolver at her best.

Deep, moving, funny ..... and a banging ending.

if you loved the poisonwood bible, you will love this book!

This book is only marginally about what is said on the back. And thats quite consistent with the point of the book. It was an edifying read, as so much of this history was (almost certainly still is) left out of high school curriculum. I loved the use of actual historical figures in this and the descriptions of Mexico in the 30s. I think it was probably longer than it needed to be but not in a painful way. I really enjoyed it and am left with many questions I want to look further into!
