Really wanted to catch up on this storyline as the Dark Phoenix movie was coming out.

It's filled with all the cheesiness and altruistic dialogue of heroic comics from the 80's.

This was just really painful to read. It was so clunky and cheesy; and I was bored out of my mind, especially during the second half. I don't need to be reminded of every little thing constantly. Or be told the story through the character's thoughts and dialogue. That's supposed to be the beauty of graphic novels; that the pictures can help tell the story. I don't feel like this utilized that at all.

This is a classic example of why I don't care for older comics. They don't have good art, the story is clunky, the dialogue is cheesy. Pretty much the exact opposite of why I read graphic novels in the first place.

I really love learning more about Jean Grey, and what led to her becoming the Dark Phoenix

This book is not without its flaws. The historical flashbacks are bizarre and problematic for one and it’s overly exposition heavy, but my goodness is it a masterclass in build, conflict, and emotion. Every issue along the way ratchets the tension up another step until the final climax, which is absolutely sensational. It’s also fascinating to see how many core X-Men characters and concepts are introduced here. All in all, a terrific read for X-fans.

this book launched my comic reading career. i vividly remember sitting in Barnes & Noble and reading the x-men graphic novels and then finding ways to read more of the novels and buy some issues. i was always better at getting into story arcs then committing to any particular series for the long term

This is the pinnacle of classic X-Men, and arguably the height of Claremont's run.
