In this book we get to see Daisy's neighborhood from her perspective on the back of her dad's motorcycle. What a sweet view of their relationship and her relationship to her community.

This is a wonderful book about an evening spent between Daisy and her papi. They go for a ride on his motorcycle, passing all of the places she knows and loves. They visit the construction site where Papi works, and try to stop for a sweet treat, but find out one of their favorite shops has closed. The message is beautiful - though Daisy’s neighborhood is changing, she knows that the love she feels will not. The well-detailed illustrations have the feel of a graphic novel, and should appeal to children.

pretty good, but I felt like it was trying to accomplish too much at the same time

I read this aloud with my father (who used to have a motorcycle when I was a kid) but now has Parkinson's and things are a little more difficult for him to do. It was so wonderful to see his face light up at the illustrations as I read.

I'm admittedly a sucker for a girl who knows a thing or two about tools so from page 1, I was already sucked in. The art style calls to mind a superhero comic with some paneling, sound effects, bold colors, and more. It even captures beautifully the feel of a California neighborhood. There is history, love, familiarity, and home in the pages of this truly stunning picture book.
