After reading and enjoying Love, Lists & Fancy Ships by Sarah Grunder Ruiz, I was eager to jump into Luck & Last Resorts! Nina had intrigued me in Ruiz's debut--specifically her relationship with Ollie, another side character from book #1-- so when I heard she was getting her own book centered around that relationship I was very excited.

While Ruiz's debut had more of a lighter tone, with great humor mixed with heart, her sophomore title was different (in a good way!). This second chance romance felt a bit heavier, more emotional, but Ruiz always does such a great job with the emotional core of her stories. Though some may find it hard to fall in love with Nina (because she definitely has her issues), I was rooting for her from page one, having felt able to understand where she was coming from even if I couldn't relate to her choices.

As always, Ruiz's characters were the standout for me. From Nina's complexity to Ollie's big heart to Captain Xav's relationship with Nina, they all kept me hooked in the story. The complexity of Nina and Ollie's relationship was rough to read at times, but it's also what made their whole story compelling and engaging. They had great chemistry together, and I liked getting to see their decade long relationship develop through the flashback chapters.

Though the writing left a bit to be desired for me, I still really enjoyed this book! And I'd definitely recommend if you're into summery yet deeply heartfelt second-chance romances. This one won't fail to tug at your heartstrings.
