Read this one on a 7 hour plane flight home. It was fun. The beginning especially was funny and exciting, the latter half was a bit “ugh" and overly dramatic.

I really enjoyed this book. Parts of it were absolutely heartbreaking, but I enjoyed the ending and all of the loose ends were tied up. I appreciated the complexity of the character development. This book is far more than what I had expected, with the storyline of exes being stuck on a road trip together. It details the difficulties within relationships, the honeymoon phase, mental health battles, etc.

I thought it was solidly good. I think that when I picked it up I had imagined it was going to be more light and fluffy than it was. If you’re looking for that, this book might not be exactly what you’re looking for. It touches on a lot of dark themes and heavy subjects. I’m not saying that’s a bad thing but I am sure that if I had been more prepared for what I was reading I would have given us a higher rating.

i have no idea where to start. actually i do. okay so i read ca. the first half, thinking it was okay like yeah it’s a good book. then i was like omg this is so boring i hate this, at points bc some of the flashbacks where so long and they felt SO unnecessary (but ig they weren’t). then, THE BATHROOM SCENE OMG!! it was so much and i loved it. the rest was just amazing!

Overall, I did not love this one as much as I had hoped.
  • As with The Flatshare, this book tackles some heavier topics. However, they way they were handled left me feeling a little uneasy.
  • The combination of a lot of characters with a lot of stories + the alternative timeline and narration had me questing who/what/where/why more often than I felt I should have.

This book made me violentttt
So one of my best friends recommended this book because she loveddd it and while I understand why she did - I definitely didn’t as much
I think for me one of the major things was just how unlikeable all the characters are? Literally besides Deb every single other major character is incredibly unlikeable at one point or another - and that’s especiallyyy true with Marcus
Like truly what an absolute piece of shit
Anyways - overall I’m glad I read this for the most part and saw what my friend meant but also ya definitely not 100% for me

I've thoroughly enjoyed O'Leary's previous books, but the Road Trip left me a bit cold. I wasn't too interested in the main character's love story, and hated the "before" relationship and Dylan's attitude. Which I guess was the point... Nevertheless, I had to force myself to pick up the book, which is never the sign of a great read.
