Wow I have never felt as conflicted before in a book as I did in this one. Most of the time I was ok with the romance, but it was also in the back of my mind… “is this relationship ok? Is it weird?”
The plot of them trying to figure out the identity of her late-husband’s lookalike was a whole roller-coaster as well. That story took me for a loop and I surprisingly didn’t see that ending coming. It’s this reason that I’m giving it 3 stars but it snuck by

Romance with a side of mystery! I loved Before We Were Us, so I came into this one with high expectations. It was a cute romance and I instantly connected to the characters. She really explored the complexities of family dynamics in this heartwarming story. However, some of the mystery fell a little flat to me. But overall, an enjoyable summer beach read!
Thanks to Thomas Nelson and NetGalley for a copy of this book.

I really enjoyed reading this sweet, emotional story. I loved how supportive Maggie’s in-laws were of her. Most of the time, they completely rallied around her. Maggie was finally ready to move on after her husband’s unexpected death, when she thinks she sees him in the distance. Josh has had feelings for Maggie since they were in high school and had kept it to himself the entire time because she was his brother’s girlfriend and then wife. They team up to try to find out who she had seen and it leads to drama at every turn. Josh was the perfect match for Maggie, as a friend and in love. This story was such a fun, easy read. It had me hooked from page one and there were a lot of fun surprises. It was my first Denise Hunter book and it will definitely not be my last!
Thank you, Denise Hunter, Thomas Nelson Publishing, and Netgalley for providing me with an arc of this story!

I was pleasantly surprised by this story. The romance was sweet and took its time to develop. I’m a slow burn girly through and through. So, this worked really well for me.
The mystery element was well done too. I liked that it kept me guessing. The way it developed was sort of like the romance. Slow but with purpose.
I enjoyed Hunter’s writing as well. It flowed nicely and the descriptiveness was vivid enough for me to picture everything without seeming flowery.
I saw that this was tagged as Christian fiction on Goodreads. I’m not religious so I wouldn’t normally gravitate towards something with that tag. However, there wasn’t very much in the writing to suggest that this was in that category except for a few mentions of going to church. I like that this book could still appeal to a broad spectrum of readers while staying true to itself.
Overall, this was a great reading experience. I will happily check out more by this author in the future.

I thought I had this one figured out REAL early, but was pleasantly surprised I was wrong! I LOVED the mystery aspect of this book, it reminded me of When We Believed in Mermaids by Barbara O’Neal. Unfortunately, the romance was not convincing at first. It seemed very rushed and I did not like the overuse of the nickname “honey” because I was not interested in the relationship part of the book (shocking I know!). Thankfully it got better towards the end. This book is SO bingeable! It’s like she put crack in it, I couldn’t put it down!
Read if you like found family and second chance romance!
Thank you to @thomasnelson, @zondervanbooks, @netgalley for the ALC! Out TODAY!!
Almost five years after her husband's death, Maggie is finally ready to move on. She'll spend the summer near his family, and make a plan for the future. Little does she know her brother-in-law, Josh, is hoping her decision to move on might include him! When she catches a glimpse of her husband's doppelganger, her summer plans change and she goes on a quest to find out who this stranger is. With Josh by her side they try to find answers. Will he be able to let her know how he feels? Will she be able to move on after this encounter? Who is the stranger that looks exactly like her husband?
This one took me a while to get into. We jump pretty quickly into the action and quest for answers, but not yet knowing the characters I struggled to connect. I eventually got there and by the end was invested in the outcome. It is a pretty different concept, and I considered many of the same questions the characters did along the way. Is it weird for a brother-in-law to have feelings for/be in a relationship with his brothers widow? 🤷🏻♀️
This was a romance book with only kissing. There was also a small faith aspect to the story, but seemed to be mostly just mentioned here and there with attending church, or a thrown out, "Help me" prayer and not a big part of the characters lives.
Thank you to @netgalley for the advanced copy in exchange for my review. It will be published tomorrow, so if it sounds interesting, go ahead and get it!

This was an emotional roller coaster of a book, which had me guessing from the instant the mystery unfolded.
It follows the story of Maggie who found her late husband’s lookalike at a carnival. Throw in her brother in law, Josh, who has always had feelings for her and the mysterious lookalike- it is a busy summer.
I enjoyed this- the budding romance and the mystery aspect of the book. I had different theories but I was proved wrong.
The author’s storytelling is beautiful and she has a way of explaining and describing things that make you connect with the characters.
There were twists, turns and I loved how the author dealt with the grief aspect of the story. Also, the characters delivered exactly what was expected of them.
If you love clean romance with a little bit of everything then you will enjoy this.
