The book was intriguing and fun to read, which I think is where it gets it’s popularity but it fell short for me in the ways that mattered most. It was like it was TRYING to be intelligent, but it felt like an imitation. And the characters, while it’s obvious they were all meant to be morally grey, were generally insufferable. They felt more like ideas of people that actual people (yes i know it’s a silly little fantasy but!!!!) and don’t get me STARTED on the switch up with Libby at the end. It’s a case where I don’t dislike the character but I dislike the author for failing to write her with ANY nuance. We were told that she was powerful and an integral part of the team but never shown. It felt like that guy (sorry forgot his name) was in love with her (which??? No he wasn’t because where was the build up where was the chemistry) to prove that she WAS a loveable character. Which she wasn’t. Anyways sorry for the rant guys hehe for all my qualms… I did enjoy the book, and I think it had some great things, which just makes me wish so much more that it had done more with some of its flop moments.

I read this with a book club broken down into 4 sections over 4 weeks...it would have been way better to blast through it but really analyzing the lost potential killed it for me.

Arguably the most interesting characters were the ones with the least amount of focus. Finally finding out what the plot was going to be at the very end was a good payout.
