Set before the Cruel Prince, this book was a great way to see a different part of the world where humans and faeries live on the same land. There is a crossover of characters from both stories, and the main character Hazel has many similarities to Jude, but there are enough differences to make it enjoyable. The ending was surprising and incredibly satisfying. Also, the LGBTQ representation is done well.

What affected me the most was the "animal death" here. I don't thinks it's an spoiler so I'm just going to say it in case it triggers someone else who is a dog owner: when the main characters were children, they went to this adventure and a monster killed their little dog who tried to protect them. And that made me feel SO sad and sick because I have 3 dogs and just the thought of that...
