for someone (like me) who's very far removed from the polidori's word choice and references, 'the vampyre' was hard to follow at points. especially when there wasn't much going on in terms of action. but aubrey is a well-crafted character, so it was easy connecting with his struggles and following the story through his perspective.

I love vampires and I appreciate that this introduced them to western literature but this book is straight ass.

the version I listened to started with a bit of biographical context which I didn't notice right away and which made me think damn he actually called the vampire lord byron for a hot second. Compelling vampire story, what if everyone was so charmed by this guy you know eats virgins including your girlfriend that they don't believe you and think you're mad and then you die.

I found it quite a tricky read and didn't totally follow this short story but I enjoy all stories relating to Lord Byron
