This volume of East of West relies less on exposition for its storytelling. The creators take the story to its apocalyptic arc and introduce the beast as a central character. War breaks out and the alternate reality factions are fantastic and cool as hell.

While the second volume of this series left me wanting for payoff, this third collection of “East of West” delivers plenty. I’m impressed with Hickman’s ability to juggle a vast storyline without getting me confused. Going to dive straight into volume four.

I want to like this series more but the politics and intrigue feel forced.

There's this Kurt Vonnegut rule of storytelling: Start as close to the end as possible.

Clearly, East of West isn't following that rule. It felt like it at first. That we were on the brink of the apocalypse. But after this volume, I'm kind of ready for shit to get started, really, for real.

And I'm one volume away from being totally screwed again. 6 issues behind, maybe a new book within the next couple months. But I don't know if this stuff will all hold together in my mind, and if it doesn't, I doubt that I'll get beyond volume 5.

The Endless Nation has arrived. Poor Ezra! I always knew balloons were evil.

More like a 3.5 stars for me; Once again I took a bit too much time off from this series, but I got back into it. One thing I enjoyed was how finally some of the threads are intertwining.
