Boring. Forgettable story, forgettable characters, forgettable ending. The title and the blurb are misleading. The supposed love story between the two main characters is not immersive, I am not rooting for them from the start, it’s just plain. Too many side characters with too much irrelevant details make the story boring and I had the urge to give the book up many times during my reading. The author picks up all the imaginable topics existing in the world and tries to tackle them all in one book which makes no sense. It’s all jumbled up. There are so many parts of the book which if you don’t read won’t really affect your understanding of the book and you won’t miss out on a single thing. It was an effort to read this book. There is not a single thing I liked about this book. Predictable ending to various stories within the novel, vague overall ending which did not excite me or made me happy for any of the character. I think it could have been written in a much condensed and better way. The length of the book is not at all justified, whatever the author wanted to say could have been said in mere 200-250 pages and that might have been more interesting.

Me encantó!!!

this book surprised me so much i thought it was going to be boring and have not that much to it - don’t ask me why
the plot was amazing!! everything was going wrong and it was so overwhelming you really got to feel like yasmin a bit. I also liked how often yasmin was wrong about things and I could see that but it’s because she is flawed too
I loved how she explored yasmins relationship with her parents but it wasn’t all the book had.
the happy ending came around really nicely too

Love Marriage by Monica Ali is one of my best surprise reads of the year. I can’t remember why I picked it up – maybe because Ali was short-listed for the Booker with her debut Brick Lane. (My readers know how I feel about the Booker Award.) Whatever the reason, I’m so glad I did.
Book Review of Love Marriage by Monica Ali
Yasmin and Joe are engaged, and while impending marriages can often test familial relationships, this one is poised to do that and more. Both Yasmin and Joe are on the road to successful careers as physicians in current day Britain. That may be where similarities end.
Yasmin was raised in a fundamentalist Hindu home, strictly professing (if not quite adhering to) all of its morays: male-dominated, avoiding alcohol, rigorous work ethic, and absolutely no acknowledgment of sex. Yasmin desperately wants to know the history of her parent’s courtship – since there was the unusual “love marriage” – but neither seems interested or willing to give it.
Joe on the other hand – a white, suburban Londoner – was raised primarily by his lesbian, feminist mother whose overt expression of sexuality provided a life without taboo.
