I highly suggest re-reading the book after starting the TM meditation. Ideas written will open up in a new light
If you love Lynch you’ll likely devour this book. I’m not the biggest fan but I admire his persona and his devotion to transcendental meditation seems so pure and joyous. Likely to be disappointed are those looking for something linear, but then you ought to know better than to expect that of David Lynch. Brief but very fun.
I really enjoyed this. It's exactly what I thought it would be. I know he is a big believer in Transcendental Meditation, so why wouldn't he write about what it means to him?
He's a human who always impresses me with his creativity.
"You can understand conflict, but you don't have to live in it."
I dunno, this all makes sense to me.
Make the time for practices that work for you - it's as simple as that.
"You become more and more you - the final cut."
NOTE: Revisited a year later and enjoyed it even more. "The world is as you are" is just....yes.
"Don't fight the darkness. Don't even worry about the darkness. Turn on the light and the darkness goes."

I honestly would have rather had just a book on Lynch’s in depth experience with TM or an in depth memoir on his film making (I know he doesn’t explain his movies but I would read 500 pages easily on just his process). I don’t know. This weird little tid bit memoir didn’t completely do it for me despite containing as much wisdom as it does. Seems like a tease.
Now I’m interested in learning TM, but I’ll have to wait until I’ve saved $960 and enough money to spend 4-5 days in Palm Springs, CA. Ah, well...guess I’ll stick with mindfulness-based meditation for now....
At first I thought, “This is just a pitch for transcendental meditation.” After about an hour though I got very interested in becoming one of 8,000 highly trained transcendental meditators who can collectively meditate and create peace on earth with the force of their combined thoughts.
In this slim volume, Lynch offers anecdotes and advice on everything from his film catalog, his love of fire, to his dedication and reliance on Transcendental Meditation. He brings his deadpan seriousness, wit and wisdom while relating things that mean the world to him.
I try to read this or listen to the audiobook(wonderfully read by Lynch himself) every few months to recharge my batteries.

Great book for anyone to read, especially if interested in how meditation and creativity intersect.
