Absolutely loved this couple.

I love seeing these strong, powerful, successful people change all the rules when they find their person. I love reading whenever they feel themselves softening towards someone they shouldn’t but can’t help the emotions they’re feeling.

I think Brendan first realized it when he heard Marlowe playing the piano, or shortly after when they were meeting up at a hotel for an afternoon delight and he arrived to her sleeping and all he wanted to do was cuddle her 🥹🥹

I’ll say those I always hate when the big, bad, rich billionaire is realizing they’re having feelings, then acts like a jerk to the other person because they can’t deal with it. Luckily, Brendan got over that phase quickly once he heard while she was on her trip. When he shows up for her, I melted!!

I also love seeing a powerful man grovel to get his girl back. The way he showed up for Tab too just melted my heart.

“Because I am stupid levels of in love with you. Stupid levels.” ❤️❤️

Brendan and Marlowe maybe my favourite story of all Elodie’s books so far!
The buildup of their relation was so fast and loose, and really leaves you wanting more straight from the jump. The AUDITION!!!! I swear I’ve been thinking about this scenes ALL DAY!
It was nice to see the glimpses of Brendan being a genuine human being, while also being so hot and such a douche at other moments.
Such a typical man who goes and f*cks it all up for himself - lucky for him he’s a billionaire, and was able to come through for her. This man GROVELLED!
Side bar - I really enjoyed Tabby’s character - bless this sweet child.

Another absolute knockout from Elodie Hart ✨

I don’t know what Elodie puts in her books but they are just so captivating and make me want to savour every word - Duplicity was no exception!

Brendan, Marlowe (& Tabby’s) story is so beautifully written and whilst the spice hits from the very beginning, it’s so lovely to see how they learn to love, trust, and grow together 💖

The grovelling in this is top-notch and even though he made a mistake, you can’t help but fall in love with Brendan as he works his way through it and proves himself worthy of Marlowe. And Marlowe and Tabby getting the happy ending they’ve fought so hard for and are so deserving of is the icing on the cake.

Highly recommend Duplicity and am so looking forward to the rest of the Seraph series ❤️‍🔥

Elodie does it again. Brendan I think takes the lead for my favorite as far as book boyfriends from Elodie are concerned. He messes up, badly, but goodness, does he grovel. And does his groveling make up for it in a big way. Marlowe is the type of mom I think all of us moms like to think we are. Truly selfless. Truly all giving. She is going through the hardest battle and gives absolutely EVERYTHING of herself to ensure Tabs gets what she needs. This book was emotional and heartwarming. This book was spicy and romantic. Brendan was off the charts hot and he was exactly what Marlowe needed to shine. Seriously. This book was amazing.

"I can’t bear to think about how it would have been without him. And through it all, he’s asked for nothing. Nothing. Everything he’s given us, he’s given it freely. No agenda. And definitely no recompense. - Marlowe Winters

To what extent can we save our child? Will you put everything on the line, even if it means using your body to make ends meet?

The second book in Elodie Hart's Seraph Series, Duplicity, examines themes of introspection, sacrifice, and profound maternal love. It revolves around Brendan Sullivan, an esteemed CEO with an alpha-hole and playboy character, and Marlowe Winters, a single mother struggling financially to fund her daughter's heart surgery.

After Tabby's congenital heart condition has reached a deadly level, Marlowe must figure out the fastest means to cover costs for the surgery in the United States. Following being dismissed for leaving early to attend to her daughter's medical needs at the hospital, Athena suggested that she join Seraph. Brendan was her first client when she joined the agency after swallowing her pride and overcoming her fears.
In addition to being an EA and a sex on tap for Brendan, she has a second life as a single mother after work hours, without sharing much of the reason she became a Seraph with him. She does a fantastic job of concealing her other identity from Brendan. So far, the excuses and lies she consistently offers whenever Brendan attempts to encroach on her personal life have been effective.
They find it difficult to keep their affections for one another within reasonable bounds as they spend more time together, both professionally and intimately. Until Marlowe was humiliated by Brendan's shameful act.
Can Brendan regain her trust and even win her love after discovering the whole truth about Marlowe's and realising his feelings for her?

She lets her eyes drift shut and I take her in like never before. I really see her. I see the stresses and the sacrifices; I see the vulnerability and the bravery. I marvel at her, at the hidden depths I didn’t even know to plumb. - Brendan Sullivan

PLOT
The emotional beats in Elodie's novels are consistently delivered with a deft balance between passion and heartbreak.
Although some might perceive this book to be a romance, the plot of Duplicity is excellent in presenting a mother's challenging journey to save her child's life and Brendan's self-exploration and redemption through his monumental act of grovelling. I think the book was written exceptionally well because it ticked and surpassed all of my expectations, because I love the grovelling trope.

CHARACTERS
A great mother is often the driving force behind any successful individual, and in this book, Marlowe has made numerous sacrifices and provided unwavering support. Her character embodies the extraordinary fortitude and tenacity that come with being a mother. In addition to the fact that her trials have impacted me as a mother, I felt moved by her eventual liberation from it.
However, Brendan's self-absorbed, man-child demeanour could be a bit (well, perhaps most of the time) obnoxious. But his ADHD is the cause of his unrelenting, blatant need for validation. Nevertheless, after his awakening, his heart is pure and made of gold. His grovelling was tremendous, and I must say that he gained my favour and atoned for his carelessness over these chapters.
I've been charmed by both Brendan and Marlowe's characters, who never fail to remind me of the sufferings that all people, regardless of wealth, must undergo.

CHEMISTRY
We saw an ember being ignited since Marlowe and Brendan first met in Audacity, and it has continued to spread and transform into sexual fireworks throughout this novel. You want more intimate moments with these two because of their chemistry, which radiates and sizzles off the pages. I know I did.

In conclusion, and along with my 5-star rating, Duplicity is really more than just a book about romance, healing, and embracing one's sexual self-confidence. It's also a thought-provoking and reflective tale which highlights the fortitude, perseverance, and unwavering devotion that mothers embody.

Thank you to Elodie/Sara and her Team for allowing me to be part of her ARC team and for trusting me to read Duplicity in advance.

I am one broken human. God this book had all the feels and I was completely invested. I didn't want it to end but also I wanted to know more.

I've cried and laughed and loved with these characters and I can't get enough of Sara's books.

The ending was just perfect for the book and I wish I could reread it again for the first time. Hot, steamy, erotic and beautiful.

If you've read Audacity, the first book in the Seraph series,  then you've already been introduced to fmc Marlowe and mmc Brendan.

Marlowe is a single mother to an eight year old girl, Tabby. Tabby has a congenital heart defect called Tetralogy of Fallot, requiring a surgery in the U.S. This was mentioned in Audacity, as Tabby is Athena's god daughter. Marlowe, who struggles to make ends meet on a good day, refuses Athena's offer to pay for the surgery. Instead, she has Athena refer her to Seraph, so she can work as a full service Executive Assistant.

Athena of course, in her best effort to protect her friend, gets her paired with Brendan Sullivan. Gabriel's brother. She remembered the way Brendan looked at Marlowe when he met her.  I will say I liked Athena a lot in this book, more so than in her own.

At first glance, Brendan seems very entitled and not the most likeable character.  He grew on me quickly though and after a few speed bumps, I absolutely loved him with Marlowe.

I loved this book as its not just spice (though there is PLENTY) but lots of emotion as well as an engaging story with loveable characters.
