I wasn't expecting to be into this one at all, but I found myself enjoying it a good bit along the way. Hardly a favorite, but a pleasant surprise nonetheless. (Student book club)

2.5! Sirius and Maggie were both adorable but I definitely cringed and rolled my eyes a bunch reading this one.

Great read-aloud, slow at times but the second half of the book kept us on the edge of our seats. Some of the topics covered led to interesting conversation. Great for second to fourth grade readers.

I know it's a children's book and all, but a lot of the dialogue is unbelievably sappy. The story was fairly interesting, but the ending seemed kind of loose, as in some problems were never really solved along with the fact that some of the characters' relationships weren't exactly cultivated or explained.

Read this with a student who loves dogs and he was always eager to read it each time we met. It was a bit slow paced for me, but I appreciated the independent main character Maggie. Not a fan of the antagonist being called a witch as a negative term.
