I am generally a big David McCullough fan but this was my least favorite book. This is a book focused on 3 military battles from the Revolutionary War. I'm more a fan of political history so it hard for me to get through. I imagine if you like military strategy/history books you will enjoy this book. It does provide an interesting portrayal of Washington as an inexperienced and flawed Commander-In-Chief.

I read this for a bookclub. I am not sure that I would've read it otherwise--- historical non-fiction that focuses on war is generally not something that I enjoy. This book had a few parts that interested me, particularily that first part of the book which took place in the Boston area. The book seemed to jump around from person to person and location to location a lot. It could've used a bit more focus in my opinion.

Absolutely loved this book. McCullough’s narrative skills are very good and keeps you engaged. I also didn’t think a book of only a few hundred pages would have enough material for me to learn stuff that I don’t already know but I was quite wrong. He shows tons of diary scripts from both American and British soldiers to show you exactly how they felt and what happened. I always enjoy history straight from a historical figure’s hand. He was also very descriptive on battle scenes to give more enlightenment on how terrible war really is.
