Oof. I didn’t expect this book to focus so much on childhood trauma but I’m glad it did. I was expecting a quick primer into codependency and attachment styles and instead got a deep dive into core beliefs and how our childhood trauma stays with us forever in the form of our inner critic.

This is a great resource / introduction into shadow work as each chapter has journaling prompts and there’s worksheet assessments throughout.

Easily accessible with some really powerful chapters. Had to take many breaks reading it - but found a lot of useful nuggets from beginning to end.

Wish it had pointers to other resources more tailored to my unique experiences - as the book doesn’t necessarily discuss dealing with narcissists, abusers, or manipulators. The last chapter on dealing with new relationships could’ve been hashed out a little more - so I encourage anyone reading this to also talk things through with a therapist for deeper instruction.

Otherwise, great book.

I purchased this book ten years ago and was pleasantly surprised by how much I already learned since then through therapy, self-reflection, and choosing better relationships and boundaries. A decent book to work through, but for me it was mostly just validating of my own personal growth.

Think this could be a good book for clients who have not yet done work on their attachment style yet but wouldn’t recommend to people who have begun work extensively.

While some valid points and information, But I felt it didn't go in depth. only skimmed the surface and offered little in terms of real world applications in todays world.
