This series is so messed up but oh so good. The content was both darker and less dark than the first one if that makes sense.
I feel like this one was just a major set up for the next one but I did enjoy Kai and Nik so much in this one!!

This is the second book in the devil's night series. You do need to read the first book in the series to understand what is happening in this one. It helps to read the first one as well because Rika and Michael are in this one and you get to enjoy seeing their relationship develop a bit more. This romance focuses on Kai and Banks. Banks is one of the most interesting characters I've read about in a long time. I absolutely loved her and she is one of my top favorite characters of all time. Her transformation in this story was so wonderful, and this would have been a great book if that's all it was, but it was more than that. Not only did we see this wonderful character transformation in Banks, but we get to know Kai and see how he struggles with this inner battle between the dark and light parts of himself. The book also has thriller elements with the storyline about Damon that continues from the first book. This was a great read if you like dark romance and I'm excited to read book 3! I don't like to share triggers because some find them to be spoilers, but if you need to know triggers, do look them up before reading.

I am shocked at how much better this one is than the first. Kai still has issues with misogyny, but not nearly as bad as Michael or Damon.

i cant believe i liked this shit.
last year i read "corrupt" (the first book in the series) and i did not like it. so, i dropped the whole series. idk why but i thought of giving this series a second chance as i ve heard people saying this series get better and i think its true coz this book was really addictive and i liked it. i was not able to put this book down.
all of these characters need major counseling and therapy. these characters scare the shit outta me. id think i will ever survive in their universe.

“There are just some things that are more exciting when they’re a secret.”
“It’s always best to say as little as possible. The more of a mystery you are, the less leverage they have.”
“People will think what they want to think, not because they believe they are right, but because it’s in their nature to maintain that they are. By defending yourself, you feed the appetite for drama. By not, you’ve ended the conversation.”
“It could be so strange how things happen. How the people you never suspect become you’re only lifeline, and you hold onto them as hard as you can, because you have no choice. There was nothing else to keep you from falling. Falling into loneliness or despair or fear. He reached for me, and I reached back.”

Hideaway’s plot was better than Corrupt’s but only after the halfway point. The spice was better too, more adventurous. I do feel sorry for Damon, even if he’s fictional, no one deserves that kind of torture.

Loved this book just as much as Corrupt! I love the fast-paced writing style and Douglas's exploration of Predator/Prey dynamics while still making consent and safety the number one priority. The gang's still dealing with previous events, with more and more drama piling on top. It's all exactly what I was looking for in the second installment. Can't wait to read Killswitch!
