More 3.5 I guess because of taste issues (the noir choppy sentences have never been my favorite) and how fucked up the formatting was on my nook?

The 19/29 relationship hits way too close to home and was Stressful, but it’s not romanticized. But I love Viridiana? I care her

From the author of the excellent Mexican Gothic comes a story that is part thriller, part coming of age and part noir fiction. I love how the book contained so many interesting tidbits and references, whether it be old black and white movies, the biology of sharks or the history of Baja California. I was impressed with Viridiana’s character development, especially towards the end of the story. She went from a precocious, but naive girl I wanted to protect, to a ruthless woman who did things I would never have the guts to do in order to survive.

This was a real struggle for me to get into and moves slowly to start, but once I was into it I found it so engrossing... I think the setting and tone are perfect in this, and there were some twists that genuinely surprised me.

I read this on a cruise and it was perfect for just that: light summer reading. It was fast paced and exciting, while still having those dark themes I love. Though it wasn’t of the highest quality, I loved it for what it was and I had a great time reading.
