I liked it, and still find the concept of the series very original and amazing. However I'm probably the odd one out feeling that the 1st book was still the best.

I'm glad Clara reappeared in this book. Brenda too! I was wondering what happened to them, but props to the author for bringing them back.
SpoilerWhen it was mentioned that Clara had a son, I instantly guessed it was Adam. I just wished I hadn't have guessed it so easily lol. And wow, so it finally took another immortal to mate with him to produce a child!

The thing with Eve, she didn't come back till right at the end. I was waiting all along if she would actually show up. So that was what the grudge was all about! And it's finally explained how she appears and disappears. Not at all what I was expecting, but it's an interesting alternative.
SpoilerI was also hoping for Adam to finally seduce Eve in the end LOL. But that did not happen.

Now with Adam,
Spoilersure Eve explained to him how there used to be more 'immortals' in the past. But it still doesn't explain how Adam somehow ended up with the gene too. He just wasn't a part of the original group from where Eve came from. It doesn't make sense, or maybe I didn't read over it properly, I'm not sure. And the guy tells Adam he was the ancestor of human mortals? I wonder which immortal woman/women he slept with in order to start seeding the Earth.
There are so many questions, and I felt like it wasn't explained properly.

Overall, it was still a fantastic series. I wholeheartedly enjoyed it. Again, props for the originality! :)

~~SUMMARY~~

Immortal-Edge-of-World-3D-Bookstack“What I was currently doing with my time and money . . . didn’t really deserve anyone else’s attention. If I was feeling romantic about it, I’d call it a quest, but all I was really doing was trying to answer a question I’d been ignoring for a thousand years.”

In his very long life, Adam had encountered only one person who seemed to share his longevity: the mysterious red-haired woman. She appeared throughout history, usually from a distance, nearly always vanishing before he could speak to her.

In his last encounter, she actually did vanish—into thin air, right in front of him. The question was how did she do it? To answer, Adam will have to complete a quest he gave up on a thousand years earlier, for an object that may no longer exist.

If he can find it, he might be able to do what the red-haired woman did, and if he can do that, maybe he can find her again and ask her who she is . . . and why she seems to hate him.

“You are being watched. Move your loved ones to safety . . . trust nobody.”

But Adam isn’t the only one who wants the red-haired woman. There are other forces at work, and after a warning from one of the few men he trusts, Adam realizes how much danger everyone is in. To save his friends and finish his quest he may be forced to bankrupt himself, call in every favor he can, and ultimately trade the one thing he’d never been able to give up before: his life.

From the author of Immortal and Hellenic Immortal comes Immortal at the Edge of the World, the breathtaking conclusion to the best-selling trilogy. Will Adam survive?

Review

I have been a fan of these books since the first one came out. I'm sad to see these characters go, but I really enjoyed this last adventure.

Adam can't seem to keep himself out of trouble. There's always someone wanting to find out what exactly he is. He's spends a majority of his time in this novel trying to find out who is after him this time. He thought after the trouble at the compound before that he'd be off the grid for a while. Yeah, that so didn't happen. We get to see a few past characters, which is good because I wanted to know what was going on with them. We also meet a few new ones. Mirella is a complete badass, and I want to fight like her.

Each book has brought in a new species, and that's not different with this one. We get to meet goblins, and many more things. I enjoyed going back into Adam's past. He has had many friendships, but a few have definitely made an impact on him. I loved meeting Hsu, and seeing his view of the world. He's definitely a good friend to have. There are also a few action scenes, and some of them can be pretty gory.

I don't want to give a ton away because this last leg of his journey to find the woman with the red hair is one of his best ones. We learn so much about him, and the other characters. I'm going to miss this bunch of characters.

Praise for Immortal at the Edge of the World

"Brilliant end to the trilogy, with much twistiness involved in tying up all the plotlines. Lots of humour and typical Adam-ness - but no spoilers from me. You'll just have to read it for yourself. I think this might be my favourite of the series.+ - Andrea Goodreads Review

The immortal in the title is "Adam," who is about 60,000 years old and doesn't remember large stretches of his life, including his first few thousand years. He has good recall of the last five thousand or so, which he draws upon to stay one step ahead of everyone else.

In this book, Adam is still looking for "Eve," who is even older than Adam and seems to hold a grudge against him. Eve seems to have this ability to just vanish when Adam gets close and Adam decides to take up again a quest for a geolabe that he had abandoned circa 800 AD.

We get a lot of character development in this one, including the answers to why Eve holds a grudge and where she goes when she "disappears." Along the way, Adam makes new friends and deals with a new threat to his existence. Humor and action are sprinkled throughout.

I really am enjoying Gene Doucette's "Immortal" series. The stories are light, engaging and move right along. I find the the mysteries presented or implied sufficiently compelling to keep me turning the page. In terms of escapism, you can't go wrong with these books so far.
