I grew up on these books. These books are realistic yet drastic at the same time. Life isn't a fairy tale and finally there is a whole series where it doesn't have a happy ending. The characters are funny and I must admit that my favorite is Violet. Lemony Snicket is hands down one of the best authors of all time.

Bit of a spoiler about the ending in second paragraph!
The series of unfortunate events is an interesting set of books and light reading though they do get you hooked I was struggling to put them down once I started. There’s a few twists and turns and a quite a few predictable bits as the series continues all the way to the conclusion of the story.
*The ending was something I could not have predicted it leaves it so open and bittersweet. The very final chapter just leaves you wondering what happened after; but I like to think positive and that they got a kind of happy ending. *
I enjoyed Lemony Snickets writing style of putting himself in the story but not totally in the story just a watcher in the background recording everything. His style is interesting with the way he tells you it’s not a happy story and to stop reading. There is also some new words then I learnt because he would use them and then explain saves having to carry a dictionary when reading the books.
Overall they are a great set of books though not totally in my top ten I rate them all together 5 stars.

These were the first proper novels I read and wow I don't regret it! I think this is where my love for literature began! Amazing plays on the imagination and very gripping! Will be reading the whole series again soon!

The writing style of this book was readable, but left me inclined to skip large sections of what seemed like tangential thinking mixed in with the story. Overall the series was enjoyable, though the ending left me feeling somewhat unfulfilled after some 170 chapters and 13 books. Overall I think it is an interesting series for the preteen to teen age group and the movie adaptation was relatively close.

The complete wreck seems an appropriate title for these thirteen.
While theis series entertained me when I was 10, by the time the last one came around, I was done. The writing quality was okay, but the entire, "you don't want to read this" annoyed me. As did the 'in case you didn't know what this meant,'.
By the time the series ended, I barley scanned the last one, bored out of my mind.
While there are some scenes that were truly entertaining, over all, the serries was just a running scam of children go here, but then they see him as him, and they try to warm these people, but they die...
So, while it was okay for younger people, not a great series overall.
