My favorite book of the series

After dealing with so many of his antics throughout this series, we finally have Adam Black's story. He's arrogant, sensual and a troublemaker and finally got himself on the wrong side of Aoibheal, Queen of the Fae, who strip his of his immortality and makes him invisible. Adam's only hope for survival is Gabrielle O'Callaghan, a hard-working law student who is cursed with the ability to see both worlds. She's leery of him (smart girl)and resists his charms...for awhile.

It was good to see Adam get a bit of a smackdown but we also get to see another more substantive side of him. Gabby holds her own with him and they both find themselves evading danger as he tries to regain him immortality in the face of deadly politics involving the Faery Queen's court. Imagine my surprise in finding myself rooting for Adam after all the shenanigans he's pulled in the past. There apparently was a method to his madness and it was an interesting journey to discover the many layers of this man. And, of course, his romance with Gabby lived up to expectations of a match involving Adam. It was also a bit of a treat to revisit with the MacKeltar clan who have an important role in the story.

This is one of my favorites to date in this series, which is a big surprise as I was reluctant to start the story.

5+++ IMMORTAL STARS!!!!

"But, second and most important, Gabby, she'd said softly, the question you must ask yourself isn't, will you get a Happily-Ever-After? The question you need to ask yourself is, will you be able to live with yourself if you don't let yourself have a happy-now, and
end up having had nothing at all?

You were firing questions at me today, trying to get inside my head.
You asked if I believed in God.
I told you of course I do- I've always had a strong sense of self.

Your house is quiet now, you're sleeping upstairs and I'm alone with this blasted, idiotic book that purports to tally the sum of my life, and fact is, maybe I do.
But maybe, ka-lyrra, your God doesn't believe in me.

I don't think there was a single thing about this book that I didn't love. It was mesmerizing, sexy, funny, charming, breathtaking, and utterly fantastic! It kept me enthralled the entire time I was reading it. I was never bored. I loved all the characters, their quick wit and banter; and I can safely say this book is one of my favorite paranormal romance novels I've ever read.

My Immortal Highlander is the story of Gabrielle

She's aSidhe-Seer, or one who can see Fae. One who is taught to revile them. To never let one get close to her for they are soulless seducers who will kill you, and do it with a smile on their heartless faces.

She's feisty, full of passion, Adam's Irish Ka-Lyrra, and just trying to fit into a world that she's never quite fit into. She's been living her life trying to find that special guy to live it out with..but she has a secret. Even though she's supposed to be terrified of the Fae, she's secretly always dreamed of one day finding her very own Fae Prince, one whose icy soul she can thaw. One only she can bring into the light.

"How many times had she dreamed of doing that? Copping one tiny forbidden fairy-feel. Finally finding out if all that golden fairy skin really felt as velvety as it looked?"

Then she meets Adam Black
“Damn, it's good to be me." -Adam Black

A Fae Prince who's been punished by his queen and sent to live as a human for however long she deems fit. His legend is of an icy, heartless monster who should be avoided at all costs. With his long dark hair, dark eyes, and bands of gold around his wrists and neck, he's every bit the royal Prince that Gabrielle has always dreamed of. It only he wasn't reported to be an evil seducer.

Tuatha Dé Danaan. a rogue even among his own kind His favored glamour is that of an intensely sexual
Highland blacksmith with a powerful rippling body, golden skin, long black hair, and dark, mesmerizing
eyes Highly intelligent, lethally seductive. Alleged to have nearly broken The Compact on not one. but
two occasions. He is, by far. the most dangerous and unpredictable of his race.
WARNING: EXERCISE EXTREME CAUTION IF SIGHTED.
AVOID CONTACT AT ALL COST.

I loved reading their journey and the beautiful story of how they fell in love. We have a man who maybe is more than he seems, and a woman who is slowly thawing the ice around his non existent soul. How do you make someone love you if they don't even have a soul? A heart? For such a sexy story, I was very surprised on the beauty of their love.

She understood now why her friend Elizabeth, with her near-genius, analytical mind gave wide berth to
murder mysteries, psychological thrillers, and horror stories, and read only romance novels. Because, by God, when a woman picked up one of those steamy books, she had a firm guarantee that there would be
a Happily-Ever-After. That though the world outside those covers could bring such sorrow and disappointment and loneliness, between those covers, the world was a splendid place to be.

This book has some moments of extreme humor as well. We get to see some of the characters from previous books make brief appearances throughout the novel.

“Tell them, Gabrielle,” Adam urged impatiently.
Blinking, Gabby nodded. “I have one of the, er… fairies here with me –”
“Tuatha Dé,” Adam corrected irritably. “You’re bloody well making me sound like Tinkerbell.”

My advice to anyone who isn't interested in Paranormal Romances is to give this one a shot anyways. It may not be your topic of choice but I loved the love story so much I don't know how anyone else couldn't. Give a shot.

“Ah, ka-lyrra, I look at you and you make me want to live a man's life with you. To wake with you and sleep with you, argue with you and make love with you, to get a silly human job and take walks in the park and live so tiny beneath such a vast sky.
But I will never stay with another human woman and watch her die. Never." -Adam

***I would recommend this novel to others***

4.5 stars

I can't believe I waited years to read this book, because I didn't really like Adam Black in the other books. He annoyed me greatly. But now with this book I have read them all.

I loved Gabby and Adam together and how they had to work together to defeat the enemy, along with all their adventures and having to stay one step ahead of their enemies. And I loved the story of the bad Tuatha de Danaan trying to flip the world on it's axis, so-to-speak, and that she brought the twin MacKeltar men and their wives and Scotland into this one also. A great read, and it's going on my keeper shelf.
