I liked this even more than the first one. Simi continues to be an absolute girlboss. She might be the coolest mc ever, I didn’t dislike her one second. The love story between her and Kola had me giggling and kicking my feet, they are so cute together. Yemoja and Esu are dope too, I really liked Esu in this book. Honestly I’d categorise both books as pretty because the world building, the mythology and the characters are just wonderfully written.

Ahh ez a könyv. Ez a könyv.
Mindenképpen jobb volt mint az előző kötet.
A problémáim amik az előző kötettel voltak azok itt nem voltak jelen, ami természetesen adott az élményhez.
A karakter interakciók nagyon jók voltak. Különösen megkedveltem Esu-t ami meglepő fordulat volt.
A lezáró fordulatokkal kapcsolatban viszont ketes érzéseim vannak.
Több esemény folyamattal nem értettem egyet, és csak kérdeztem magam hogy ez mi és ez most honnan jött.
Itt akkor megemlíteném, hogy Kolának semmi joga nem volt számon kérni Simidelét. A lány nem tartozik hozzád és nem tartozik neked semmivel, főleg ha már döntött valamiről.
De a leszárás az jó volt. Simi jól döntött.
És itt jön fel a végére a két legnagyobb bajom:
Túl sok harc volt benne (komolyan, az agyam minden alkalommal kikapcsolt másfél oldal után)
Nem volt folyamatos a történet vezetés. Mármint Simi én szeretlek, de tényleg. Ezt elhiheted de uram atyám az anyád halott! Így kezdtük az előző könyvet. Hogy anyád megmurdelt. Ne emlegesd hogy hazamész meglátogatni. Nincs ott!
Ja meg ha itt tartunk akkor hozzátenném, hogy a mitológia nem volt eléggé kiterjesztve szabály alapon. Mit tud és mit nem tud. Sose mondták, hogy az isteneknek ilyen alacsonyan van a limitjük. Vagy ez is a narratíva hibája.
Komolyan le kellett volna fektetni a szabályokat, mert így nem ütött annyira az érzelmes jelenet mert azon voltam fennakadva, hogy ez most miért és ez most lehet-e vagy sem.
Összességében ezért megérte nem félbehagyni az első kötetet.

I adored the first novel in this fantasy series and was really excited to dive (sorry) back into the world of the mami wata and continue Simi's tale.
She has sacrificed a life on land and the chance to be with Kola in order to help Olukun bury those who lie at the bottom of the sea. Simi pines for her family and especially for Kola. When Simi realises she's made a mistake with her decision, she's forced to return to land and try to defeat more monsters and creatures.
We return to most of the characters we met in the first novel. I liked the relationship between Simi and Folasade and if there's a third book, I'd really love for Bowen to explore the sisterhood of the mami wata a bit more.
My favourite aspect of these novels is how rich they are in African mythology. I just love learning about the new myths and creatures, legends I never knew existed.
I would say this follow up wasn't as good as the first, but I'm hoping for a final book as I feel there are still some loose ends to tie up.
