I really almost just plowed through it to say that I read it but I was just super not connecting with the story in this one. I loved book 1 but the plot of this one fell flat for me.

The sequel was so....beautiful.Not just the writing, but the way the characters' emotions are described.
I really loved Simidele and Kola's relationship. Its so beautifully written. The plot was also way better than the first book

This is a good sequel, and uses the natural consequences of the first book to set up the plot here so it doesn’t feel like the author is creating problems after they already saved the world. Simi is a little in her own head, but it makes sense for her character (and for a YA novel). I do agree with other reviewers that the plot twist was not much of a twist since I figured it out pretty early, but again it’s YA. I like that she stays true to herself, and over all it was enjoyable!
Graphic: Death, Violence, War
Minor: Slavery

I had high expectations for this sequel and I felt a smidge disappointing. The writing style is gorgeous and Natasha Bowen does know how to write. But this just fell flat for me. The duology as a whole is still lovely but I just wished I loved this ending more.
