I didn't especially like the play format. It was dull compared to the other books.

*If you just saw the movies and didn't read the books, you won't like "Cursed Child.*

Absolutely beautiful

I found myself towards the end of the book weeping. Not crying, not a single tear falling down my face. I was uncontrollably sobbing. Yes, the story had a lot to do with that, but the main reason was because I realized how much I love this wizarding world. This may be cheesy or too nerdy, but being as I finished the book moments ago, I have this overwhelming feeling I need to write down.
I will always love The Boy Who Lived. I will share with my children this beloved story of bravery, sacrifice, hardship, loss, adventure, friendship, but most importantly, love. "The Cursed Child" I feel was J.K. Rowling's gift to the fans who have been here since the beginning. We grew up with Harry, and now we journey with him into the most intense and scary part of life; growing up. Having a family. Having a career. Having regrets. That being said, I would highly recommend that the reader of this book be older, as some of the themes and lessons are pretty great. "The Cursed Child" is a beautiful piece of art, and I cannot wait to put it next to the other 7 wonderful books.
"In every shining moment of happiness is that drop of poison: the knowledge that pain will come again. Be honest to those you love, show your pain. To suffer is as human as to breathe.....Those that we love never truly leave us, Harry."

So when I started this book, I hated the format. I hate the storyline they were taking it. I absolutely hated “whoa is me” Albus Potter. Then, part 2 started. I got used to the play format. I got into the story. By part 3, I was hooked and finished the whole book in less than 24 hours.

I’m still not sold on everything they did. I certainly couldn’t get used to Draco and Potter being civil to one another. But I loved Scorpius Malfoy. I loved his love for Rose. I loved the webs of crazy they brought into the story line. And I ended up loving the darn book. I just didn’t buy into the play format as a book.

I admit I held off about 16 hours because I was afraid, but my fears were unfounded. I loved it. Plain and simple.

So this is how the HP fandom gets me?? With Harry and Draco's gay little sons??? Shocker. Really bummed they didn't kiss tho.

I read this very emotionally and enjoyed reading it, if only for the fact that I got to see the characters again and my two favorite characters, Dumbledore and Snape, were shown in a positive light. For that, I gave it a 5 star rating due to the extremely enjoyable emotional experience I had with it.

However, after having some time to reflect about it, this was not well-written and not in-keeping with Harry Potter world canon. Ron and Hermione acted unlike themselves. The story between Harry and Albus was heartbreaking compared to everything Harry had been through in his life. I thought the idea of the villain was preposterous. And most importantly, the idea of how time works was completely changed from the canon created in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. So I'm knocking it down from 5 stars to 2.

Maybe 3.5 stars. I enjoyed this more than a lot of people. Go in with an open mind. It’s just different from the others, more drama and less whimsy but I think it shows another side of why the series is so good, because Rowling is a great writer in general and very well-rounded. She didn’t solely rely on the whimsy to carry the series. I’d recommend it!
