The authors of this book were terrible. Their writing style was repetitive and boring, and they used smug foreshadowing, where they outright stated what was going to happen next at the end of each event, which completely dispelled any tension or mystery the story might have contained otherwise.

Basically this is because the plot actually makes sense, and the novel is not cursed by the actual appearance of the Vervoids on screen. However, there is still an excess of exclamation marks.
