Now I'm biased as I proofed this as intern to the publisher, and it's a well known fact I love Tansy's writing. This is so incredibly interesting that it kept me reading even after I'd had a long day and my eyes were starting to ache. Tansy makes learning history a fascinating experience (like Jackie French and others - their writing is just so GOOD that it's not like you're learning at all :p

Not that learning's bad. Learning history sadly has such a bad idea attached to it of being dull and dreary. Let's hope people like Tansy can change that idea that's so firmly fixed (in my head, at least!)

An easily digested introduction (for me) to some of the women of ancient Rome. Tansy's modern take on the subject material is engaging and incisive.

This fun, and sadly very short, history of what we do and don't know about wives, mothers and siblings of Roman emperors was really interesting. I wish it had been longer, but we really don't know a lot about these women - or what we know is supplied by very questionable sources.
