Beautifully written novel. The descriptions of the scenes in this book were just amazing. The author did a great job! I am so thankful I was able to get this in a goodreads giveaway.
Knowing that things like this really happened to children during the war is just heartbreaking. And to not find out for so long in your life. It's amazing Yoel was able to use his work to give himself some understanding to what happened.
Thank you @atriabooks for the chance to read this ARC

An interesting perspective on the holocaust. Some parts retraced repeated storylines of the holocaust but thankfully some offered new twists (Holland, parking Jewish kids with non-Jewish families, who convinces themselves they are 'helping the Jewish cause', who is most evil and who is somewhat evil..)

The write up on Anne Frank house was incredible. " Yoel tries to imagine what Anne and her family feel when they see the museum's ultimate offer: a do-it-yourself kit for a charming dollhouse that is none other than the perfect replica of Anne Frank's house with all its rooms and stairs and passages."

The stories of Yoel's battle with the shower knobs daily.

The role of leaves...on the step, in the street, fall leaves.
The role of art...

A bit hard at the beginning but once the story starts rolling a beautifully written book.

This was a difficult read for me, not because of the writing or the book, but I guess I just had a hard time connecting with the characters. I would love to revisit this read again at some point, but for now, unfortunately it just wasn’t for me.

One of the most beautiful and devastating books I have ever read.
