Tean is a wildlife vet, Jem is a con-man with a brother, Benny, who is a schizophrenic. Their lives cross paths when Benny goes missing on a hike and it starts to look like maybe this time, Benny’s conspiracy theory might be true and his life is in danger.
This is some great character development and some seriously complex, troubled, but likable characters. The setting was really well told and a very vivid picture of life in Salt Lake City. The mystery was paced out well and had me hooked to the point I didn’t want to put this one down. This is only my 4th Gregory Ashe and I know he likes to put his characters through the ringer on the way to their HEA but that OM drama at times made me want to pull my hair out! It was a pretty realistic representation of a toxic/abusive relationship tho. This is marked on romance.io as a love triangle, and while it might be for Tean, as the reader there is no choice to make. This ends with these two as just friends who have fooled around.
Graphic: Toxic relationship, Sexual content, Emotional abuse, and Violence
Moderate: Rape, Child abuse, and Grief

These characters are wonderful. All About Romance was right to call them flawed but intensely loveable. Jem is a con man, and doesn’t have many people to love, and he is incredibly loyal. Tean is always reciting statistics about the terrible state of ….well anything. This annoys most of Tean’s friends, but Jem thinks it’s hilarious. He goes all in and teases Tean about it, even upping the ante.
.
The teasing and laughter is a joy to read, and the mystery is compelling and well-revealed.
BUT READ THE CONTENT WARNINGS. There is a lot of hard stuff to read in this book, including sexual assault of a minor and an ongoing toxic relationship where a side character regularly gets someone drunk so they will agree to sex.
