So I started this book 2 years ago and stopped midway since I felt like the story was getting ridiculous and seriously how many things can happen in a small town. Two days ago I decided to finish this book so I could have the whole series in my ‘have read’ library. I luckily still remembered it all so I could just pick up at the same place I stopped in 2023. Do I believe someone could get away with murder & pin it on someone else like she did : NOP but it made sense for her since she is the lead and her ending in jail would never happen. The plan was a lot, but yeah that it worked. Her wanting to confess after the headphone incident made me want to stop reading (again) but thanks to R for saving her. I do feel like her breaking contact with everyone she loved felt a bit extreme, I do understand it. Better safe than sorry.
Also really loved how R and her friends she did what she asked of them without questioning her. That’s an amazing boyfriend and friendship group!!!
J being the serial killer was a bit ridiculous for me because once again how many things can happen in a small town.
The third book wasn’t necessarily for me but at least we now know the good girl’s guide to murder. I do feel that in real life, Pip would be traumatised forever and always looking over her shoulder.
Also the whole time I was thinking : girl you could have just called the cops after killing J and claiming it was self defence. Yes she came back after escaping but still self defence for me and she could also not tell that part. I really feel like she would have gone jail free. It’s a shame because she was also a victim and now she will never have that status. Which for me makes it more difficult to build herself up again.

Simply one of the best books I've ever read. I think about it all the time. The complete reversal of moral values, the thematic ties to the first book, the insane amount of research that must have gone into writing this story, the pacing that leaves you absolutely glued to the pages (or to the recording, in my audiobook case), the negative character arc, the twisted sense of justice it leaves you with, everything mesmerizes me. I'm a philosopher and I want to study this book under every angle. Holly Jackson, you've written one for the books!
Also, count this as one of the books I would give anything to read for the first time again.

when i was reading the middle of this book i was so confused because it was something you would read in the end of a book but then p2 came and omg what a twist. i do think pip became to much aware and scared and she needed to trust herself a little more she became so paranoid. but in the end i do understand why she did what she did. 5 star read again for sure
