This book is banned. Yup. One of the most banned books in the US. Tell me again people aren’t fucking insane.

Still really solid stories for young people. I enjoyed it for nostalgia but hard to rate it higher on that alone, but definitely a formative book got me.

I originally read this as a child and it scared me to death, but upon rereading now in my 20s it was a lot more funny than scary. the nostalgia was nice though, and I do plan to read the other two books

Truly a classic. This is a book--and series--that I've reread multiple times. As an adult, these stories are no longer scary, but they bring back that feeling of what it's like to be a kid and being utterly fascinated with ghosts and ghouls and things that go bump in the night. But as an adult, Stephen Gammell's illustrations absolutely are still scary and a cause for nightmares. Frankly, I think that Schartz's collected stories are a wonderful source of inspiration! And even better is the fact that he cites where he collected these stories extremely well. We love an author who cites his sources!
