F a b u l o u s !! I stayed up until 1:30AM to finish it. I've never done that with a book before.

I need to take a break from reading for awhile or my husband and kids will want to disown me. But first, just one more book....

This series is definitely going to be one i think about forever! I loveeeeedddd this book! If you're looking for Christian fiction, historical romance, definetly read this!! PS: I can't really explain what this book is about as it starts off where the first book ended and i would spoil it, but just know it was so good!!!

I loved A Voice in the Wind for its raw portrayal of the struggles of a young Christian girl surrounded by sin in Rome, and An Echo in the Darkness followed up with a masterfully woven message of forgiveness and redemption that at times felt utterly impossible in the previous book. I have often struggled reading conversion stories in fiction books because many times they feel very abrupt, almost like they were an afterthought that wasn't fully fleshed out, with no clear path of how the person got to that point. That was not the case in this book. Maybe it helped that we spent a significant amount of time in those characters' heads, but the author did a very good job laying the groundwork for how they individually got to the point of accepting that they need a Savior. I also liked that the characters weren't automatically perfect Christians afterwards, as they still struggled after the fact with their decision and with figuring out how they are supposed to live now. One of the unsuspecting highlights for me was getting to see Phoebe's perspective both as a widow who does her best to help (and learn from) those around her, and also as a mother who is desperately praying for her children to know the Lord. Overall I really enjoyed this book, and it was a lovely and fulfilling conclusion to the series.

Not as good as the first one. Much a slower paced, not as much action. Hadassah was hard to relate to a lot of the time because she felt too perfect. The writing still really good.

So! Good!

Felt like I needed to take a break after the 1st book because of how heartbreaking the end of it was but was convinced to start this one and I am SO GLAD I did! Think I liked this one even more than the first which is rare for series / sequels.

Thoroughly enjoyed the story, fell even harder for the characters, and learned more about Jesus!! What more could ya want?!

On to the 3rd!!!
