I loved this book until I didn’t. The relationship between the two friends was too toxic. I kept waiting for Emily to realize this, but she leaned into their relationship even more.

3.5. I thought this was a colourful story in a picturesque setting. I enjoyed the story as well as the complex relationships between the characters. The concepts were exciting, but I certainly wouldn’t call it suspenseful or categorize it as a thriller.

I hated this author's first book for adults (The Wife Upstairs) with the burning heat of a thousand suns, but I decided to give her another try. I read this book in honor of a beloved booktuber who passed away, who had recommended it. I enjoyed the descriptions of Italy, and the fact that it's inspired by the summer Percy and Mary Shelley spent with Lord Byron, when Mary Shelley wrote Frankenstein.
