Highly recommend. Not an easy read but I found it mesmerizing. This book was written in the dialect of the main character - it was difficult to understand and I had to take frequent breaks but it sucked me in to the story. Unfortunately, I ran out of time on my library copy to finish the entire novel but I will definitely pick it up again in the future.

James is a remarkable writer and this story of a small group of slave women plotting the overthrow of their plantation masters is riveting. James will be speaking at the Lensic theatre in Santa Fe, NM next month. Can't wait to hear him.

The beginning was slow, and I wasn’t sure where the plot was going, but I was deeply moved by the end. It’s written in Jamaican dialect, and I appreciated the authenticity there. A moving story of slave women on a Jamaican plantation. This was, by no means, an easy read... But it was worth reading nonetheless. I highly recommend it.

My, oh, my, oh, my. This was FANTASTIC. Has moved up to the top spot of audio recordings. Not easy to listen to, very graphic depiction of slavery in the 1700's, but worth every millisecond.
