This one is such a genre bender! I love it when books don’t fit into one, neat box. It has the usual romance thread, but that is not the sole focus of the book (and I am ALL for it!😉). This one has an added layer of depth that I feel some of her others lack. I also think this book works really well structurally. The alternating storylines kept me engaged and interested in both stories equally. I agree this does give some Evelyn Hugo vibes, but that was not off-putting for me.

I enjoyed the overall premise of this one and find Alice to be a very unique character. I appreciate her outlook on life as well as the circumstances that shaped her. I think she faces some unique challenges that were interesting to read about and easy to connect with.

I was prepared going into this book that it was ‘different’ from EmHen’s previous work and that it didn’t read like as much of a romance as other books.

With this in mind I absolutely loved it and I think I would have regardless. I cried twice, I enjoyed the romance and I loved how much LOVE is in this book.

An unlikely love match, romantic tension, and a bit of humor... This makes Emily Henry one of my favorite authors, and when her books are read by Julia Whelan, it is a must read audiobook version for me.

I wish I loved this book enough to give it 5 stars, and I did like it - but I worked out the plot about 1/3 of the way through, which meant I was reading for details not because I needed to know what would happen next.
