This graphic novel was so cute! It is all about Lily, who is a young girl trying to make a name for herself in the thieves guild. Which isn't easy when the Guildmaster of Thieves doesn't like her or her mentor, Seamus. The Guildmaster only gives Lily small time crimes like pick pocketing and won't let her prove herself to the Guild. Lily decides to prove herself a different way and ends in a whole mess of trouble involving a evil plot by a earl and long dead kings. Can she foil the plot and save everyone in the process?

This was an odd and enjoyable story. It's apparently a series, so the ending suddenly makes a lot more sense. It's the kind of book that I consider a fun a ride while it lasted. I hope I can find the rest of the series somewhere.

TW: Violence, gory deaths, freaky prisons, cults, mild foul language.

At the beginning of the novel, Lily is an arrogant self-centered thief trying to work her way up the Guild to get better paying jobs. She is so unlikeable that it is often tempting to stop reading…but don’t! Lily proves she is much more than greedy. She is loyal, brave and kind while still being sassy and impetuous. Fun adventure story though there is quite a lot of violence.

Grades 6 and up.

The artwork and world building in this graphic novel were stunning. It was a bit bloody for middle grade, though, just something to be aware of.

I've seen this book compared to someone reading a friend's D&D experience and..yes, actually. A young rogue, desperate for a quest steals one that sounds easy from the Guild pile only to find out it is connected to something far more sinister.

Ends no a big ol' cliffhanger too so I hope we see more of Lily one day.

I might suggest my library move this out of children's into young adult, if only because of the amount of people run through with swords and blood flying everywhere. Didn't bother me but I can think of some parents that might freak out.

This whole thing felt like it was trying to be a learning opportunity but that fell flat. It's rather gruesome for a middle grade graphic novel, but overall the story was engaging just not remarkable in anyway.
